Kevin Behrens is the founder of APEX Protection Group LLC, founded in 2022. He has always had a passion for helping others, particularly protecting those who are in need. Kevin has found great satisfaction in working in the Law Enforcement field. He began while still a senior in high school in Kerrville, Texas, and was granted special permission from the Chief of Police for unlimited ride-a-longs and was taken under the wing of the Training Sergeant, receiving more training than new recruits as a result. In 1993, Kevin enrolled in the Police Academy at Sarasota Technical Institute, trained by the top instructors in their field, including current state's attorneys. Kevin graduated and subsequently passed the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) state exam on the first attempt. After applying to many area agencies, Kevin was given an offer to join a local sheriff's office full-time. He applied for the agency's Reserve Deputy program which he joined. With huge enthusiasm and opportunities afforded him, Kevin worked donating more hours than those employed full-time and was asked several times to transfer to full-time by the Enforcement Bureau Patrol Major, though he chose to remain in the Reserves. Kevin climbed in rank within the Reserves to Sergeant then Captain. He coordinated crime scene protection and crime reduction initiatives where he would receive the crime stats weekly for the county and organize and coordinate "Saturation Patrols" which immediately reduced crime stats. He worked with the Selective Enforcement Bureau for special details, particularly the Traffic Unit in DUI detection and apprehension, and participated in the M.A.D.D. programs, including DUI Checkpoints, as well as with the Law Enforcement Traffic Team (LETT) multi-jurisdictional participation. Kevin actively sought additional training from the Sheriff's Office, FDLE, and other training programs, particularly the state grant-funded programs. Kevin worked with the Sheriff's Office to create the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) for the Reserve Unit to accommodate the uniqueness of the program and maintain the liability focus of the Sheriff's Office - then was the first deputy to go through that modified program and successfully complete it. The law enforcement supervision training that Kevin received has proven invaluable as a supervisor for the Sheriff's Office and now as the founder of APEX Protection Group. He has worked in several different markets from non-profits, churches, hotel management, IT, and retail store management thus bringing a unique perspective to security. His work in hospitality, for example, prepared him for dealing with clients and the general public, resolving conflict, and interpersonal skills to accomplish the task at hand, all the while catering to excellence in service. Protect and Serve is often a tagline, but with APEX Protection Group, it is THE WAY we operate and the focus of our company culture.
